Deep Dark Woods

Deed Dark Woods
8" x 9" - acrylic on heavy wc paper - $45
The last of the 6 small paintings done in a day, about a week ago. I can't find or even recall the photo which inspired this scene but I do like the freshness, brush strokes, colour palette and intimacy of the space.  Stay tuned for some larger canvas paintings that took me many, many days to complete!
Have a good one.

PEI Escape

PEI Escape
8" x 10" - acrylic on heavy wc paper - $45
PEI is Prince Edward Island, home of Anne of Green Gables, red soil, friendly people, beautiful beaches, lobster dinners, and so much more. It is a very special place and if you have not been, put it on your list! Several years ago I did a road trip with our daughter and snapped photos, of course. This small painting is based on one of those. The clouds were so fabulous that day that they need to be painted again and again. Cheers!

Summer Haze

Summer Haze
9" x 11" - acrylic on heavy wc paper - $45
Another of the quick painting series. All of these subjects are ones I have wanted to paint, and it has been great to 'try them out' on paper before committing to canvas and a larger scale.
Cheers!

A New Painting and Spotlight Interview with Daily Paintworks

I spent a morning and an afternoon painting in an old abandoned ochre quarry near Les Bassacs (Provence) in May, and I knew that many of the photos I took would provide me with additional paintings ideas. One photo was of a pathway leading away from the ochre area, and that inspired this painting.

Beyond the Ochre Quarry
24"x 24" - acrylic on canvas - $400

I hope that you are having a wonderful Friday afternoon wherever you are and looking forward to a 'long' weekend, at least in Canada (Monday is our Civic holiday). If you are looking for something to read or are just really really really bored, click this link and you can read my interview with Daily Paintworks, an online gallery where I have been posting my art for a few years now. Cheers!

Sunny Provence Painting, Soleil

Soleil
16" x 16"  acrylic on canvas

This painting was inspired  by my recent experience plein air landscape painting experience in the south of France, and is based on a photo I took after painting at this spot one morning. My photo does not do the setting justice, but I hope that my colourful palette does!

Promenade III

                                                Les Bassacs Promenade III
                                         24" x 20" -  acrylic on canvas  -   $350

I painted an earlier version of this scene, inspired by a photo I took in May and by my memories of walking along a light-filled path that overlooked vineyards, in the tiny hamlet of Les Bassacs in the Luberon Valley of Provence. I like using paths and roads that lead the eye and draw the viewer into the landscape. Pathways can symbolize are all kinds of personal journeys - physical, mental, and emotional. What is around the bend? Follow the road and see where it leads.
