30 in 30 - Day 24 - Miss Molly

Miss Molly
11" x 11" - acrylic on canvas paper - NFS
Our beloved black lab Molly passed away in June at the ripe old age of 14.5 years. She was our third lab and though a strong-willed puppy (she never did come when I asked, even politely) she developed into a delightful companion over time. And of course we miss her. I have been wanting to do a senior portrait of her for awhile, and this is it, the 24th painting in the 30 in 30 challenge. As you can imagine it's not for sale, however, it is an example of the pet (mostly dogs and some cats) portraits I do on commission - so if interested in having your pet immortalized - please contact me - I charge $175 for a 12" x 12" on canvas.
Have a great day!

Water Dog

Water Dog
14" x 18" acrylic on canvas
This is for sale - contact me for price if interested.
This is Molly, our 9 yo black labrador, wading in water and looking for fish. This painting is based on a photo I took last summer while visiting friends on Georgian Bay - on the hottest day of the summer. Like Molly, we spent a lot of time cooling off in the water.

Painting Animals

Red Dog Boat Dog sold
Molly in Dreamland  sold
Occasionally I paint animals. The inspiration for these two paintings was 'Molly' our 9 year old black lab who loves to ride in the bow of our motor boat going back and forth from our island cottage in Haliburton ( a cottage area in Ontario). The inspiration for the pose came from this photo (or one like it).
As for depicting her red - well Molly, who is a wonderful dog, has a lot of 'attitude', so the colour seemed appropriate.

And here are a few other dog portraits I have done....

My other favourite model is our daughter. But I will show you those paintings another day.
