Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving
11" x 11.5" - acrylic on canvas paper - SOLD
I was was driving along rural roads today and I was noticing the subtlety of the colour in the fields and the vegetation. Normally at this time of year where I live the bright reds, oranges and yellows we associate with autumn are in full force. However, I found the muted reds, yellows, violets and greens just as beautiful and they inspired this painting.  And because it is Thanksgiving weekend (in Canada) I named it that.
Have a wonderful weekend!
P.S. - the colours in real life are even better than what I was able to capture with my camera lens!

Roadside Attraction II

Roadside Attraction II
16"x 20"  - acrylic on canvas paper - $150
I seem to have an artistic 'season disconnect' as we head into spring. For whatever reason I am finding inspiration in some photos I took last fall when the colours were at their height in Ontario. I am sure I will catch up soon to spring, but in the meantime here is a second painting based on one of those photos from last September. This too was largely painted with a palette knife but the textural creating larger, flatter areas of colour.

Roadside Attraction I - Autumn Foliage

Roadside Attraction I
16.5" x 22"  - acrylic on canvas paper  - $150
Lately I have become enamoured with 'mark making' while I paint, and have become more experimental in making a wider variety of them in my work. Painting with a brush is still a joy, but recently I have been using a palette knife as well. In this painting I began with the brush, but as paint layers were built up, the knife work created such wonderful texture, suggesting foliage, that I left it more intact than usual.
The composition (and hence title), and even the colour palette was inspired by a photo I took last October when the autumn colours were at their most intense. It was a beautiful season.

More Autumn Colours

Autumn Colours
13.5" x 15"  -  acrylic on Canson canva paper  - SOLD
I painted this one a few weeks ago, when at my cottage and surrounded by the glorious colours of autumn.
Here is the inspiration. I knew I would abstract it from the start and I was very happy with the result. Maybe I need to try this one on a large canvas......

Painting The Colours of Autumn - Klondike Road Meadow

Klondike Road Meadow
13" x 17"  - acrylic on Canson Canva Paper  - SOLD

Earlier this month I spent a few days at my cottage in the Haliburton area. The fall colours of the tree foliage, sumac, and vegetation were incredible ranging from dark purple-reds through orange-reds, yellow-greens, dark greens and all shades of yellow and orange. This meadow is on Klondike Road and it just had to be painted.

Autumn Woodland

Autumn Woodland
24" x 30"  - acrylic on canvas
This is for sale - contact me for price if interested.

This painting represents a visual 'slice of life' in Ontario in the autumn. Every year the leaves of the various deciduous trees turn from green to red, orange, gold and are always a sight to behold. It's nature's 'last hurrah' before....well let's not think about that right now!
