In the weeks I was not posting last month, I was painting, but nothing too serious or time consuming, in my sketchbook, experimenting and having fun. Isn’t painting always fun? Yes and no. It is engaging and challenging and obsessive and mind consuming, and yes, often fun and satisfying. Did I say frustrating? I am not sure what I would do if I didn't paint!

This is the second of at least three paintings featuring over-sized apples rendered in a high key palette. I love painting with these light, bright colours! It makes me think of spring flowers, and new green leaves on trees.

Last week I was missing my big apple painting (below) which I sold to a good friend last year  - so I decided to paint another one. Different apples, different composition, not quite as large, and very different palette. Many of my paintings lately have started out in a high key colour palette, but as they evolved became quite a bit darker. I worked hard at not letting this happen here. And I also quite happily ignored the real apple colours for ones that I liked more. While in the middle of this one I started a second......and have plans for a third one also.
